Mystery at the Museum
April 19th and 20th, 2024

It’s a Murder Mystery – but not just ANY murder mystery! Join the Merchants and Drovers Tavern Musuem on April 19 and 20 for our second annual fundraiser, the immersive mystery where you become part of the show!

This year your ticket grants you access to Rahway’s own Lady Lux Casino, where you will step back in time to the age of the Rat Pack, pillbox hats, and post-war prosperity. It’s all fun and high-stakes games – until one unlucky individual cashes in their chips for good.

Upon arrival, you will be assigned a role at the door with a packet detailing your character’s unique traits, goals, and secrets. After some time to mingle with the other guests, try your hand at games of chance, and enjoy themed cocktails, a full buffet dinner, and a retro atmosphere, you will be called into action to help unravel a most shocking death. You and your fellow guests will interview suspects, search for clues, solve puzzles, and work together to finger the guilty party – before it’s too late.

Last year’s murder mystery fundraiser sold out, and received rave reviews – so don’t miss this year’s event! Put on your mid-century modern best or just come as you are, but do come – we’ll never figure out whodunit without you!

Costumes are encouraged but not required – but if you’re as excited to dress in character as we are, think late 1950s-early 1960s. The clothing worn in the early seasons of the HBO series Mad Men, as well as classic movies such as Pal Joey, Pillow Talk, North By Northwest, The Apartment, and Ocean’s Eleven, can help give you a sense of the fashions of the times.

A Note About Accessibility

This event, including dinner, drinks, socializing, and the bulk of the mystery-solving will take place on the wheelchair-accessible ground floor of the Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum, and parking is also available immediately behind the building in the tavern yard for people with accessibility needs.  Some portions of this event will take place on the museum’s upper floors, which are accessible only by stairs, but information discovered upstairs will be conveyed back downstairs, and the denouement will take place downstairs. Staff members can also use a cell phone to take photos of props and staging on the upper floor while the event is in process, and share them with anyone who is unable to climb stairs.  If you would like more information, please call the museum office at 732-381-0441.
